New Parandur Airport to Take Off by Early 2025

The development of the new airport in Parandur is gearing up to commence within the next six months, following the recent site clearance granted by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA). The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) is now poised to secure project clearance, marking a significant milestone in the Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008.

The MoCA’s site clearance for the airport, located in the Kancheepuram district, follows rigorous evaluation by several key authorities, including the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and the Indian Air Force. This green light was crucial for advancing the project, which aims to bolster regional connectivity and infrastructure. “Obtaining site clearance is a critical step, but project clearance is also necessary before we can break ground,” said sources involved in the project. “We are currently preparing the project approval application and will soon present it to the Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports. Additionally, we need to secure the aerodrome licence from the DGCA. We anticipate that all required documentation will be finalised within the next six months, allowing construction to commence by early 2025.”

On March 14, TIDCO applied for environmental clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. While the process is ongoing, it is noted that no forest land is involved, thus forest clearance is not required. This expedites the approval process, bringing the project closer to realisation. The Parandur airport is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing connectivity and supporting economic growth in the region. As preparations advance, stakeholders are keenly awaiting the final approvals to initiate what promises to be a transformative infrastructure development.
