The Government of India is poised to introduce comprehensive policy guidelines aimed at bolstering the manufacturing of electric passenger cars under the “Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India” (SPMEPCI).
Scheduled for release by the end of September, these guidelines include provisions for reduced customs duties on imported vehicles contingent upon corresponding investment commitments within the country, according to officials familiar with the matter. A senior official involved in crafting the policy framework disclosed that the guidelines, currently under finalization, are expected to be completed within the next two months.
