New Entity Aims to Accelerate PRR Development

In a strategic move to breathe new life into the Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) project, the Karnataka government has announced the formation of Bengaluru Business Corridor Ltd. This newly established entity is tasked with revitalising the 73-km PRR, which has faced delays and challenges under the previous PRR Development Corporation Ltd. The road will now be officially referred to as the Bengaluru Business Corridor as part of this rebranding effort.

The new organisation will be chaired by the Bengaluru Development Minister, with a board comprising top officials from various key departments including Urban Development, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), BBMP, Finance, and Public Works. The BDA chairman will assume the role of vice chairperson. Additionally, the 12-member board will feature representatives from engineering and finance sectors, alongside an assistant commissioner and a town planning expert.

The decision to rename the PRR as the Bengaluru Business Corridor underscores the government’s intention to monetise the land along this major infrastructure project. This move is aimed at ensuring the project’s financial viability and accelerating its progress. However, the BDA has yet to release a new tender for the project’s execution, which remains a critical next step for advancing the initiative.

The formation of Bengaluru Business Corridor Ltd signals a renewed commitment to enhancing the development and utilisation of the PRR area. By focusing on monetisation and improved management, the government aims to overcome previous hurdles and drive the project towards successful completion. This strategic initiative is expected to play a significant role in bolstering Bengaluru’s infrastructure and supporting its economic growth in the coming years.
