In the year 2023-24, New Delhi Railway Station emerged as the highest-grossing railway station in India, generating a remarkable ₹3,337 crore in revenue.
This achievement underscores the station’s pivotal role in the nation’s transportation infrastructure and its significant contribution to the Indian economy. New Delhi Railway Station handled approximately 39.36 million passengers during the 2023-24 fiscal year. The station’s diverse revenue streams, including ticket sales, retail operations, and advertising, have collectively propelled it to the forefront of India’s railway earnings. Following New Delhi, Howrah Railway Station in West Bengal secured the second position with an annual revenue exceeding ₹1,692 crore and a passenger count of 61.33 million. Chennai’s MGR Central Railway Station ranked third, generating ₹1,299 crore from 30.60 million passengers.
The surge in revenue at these stations is attributed to substantial investments in infrastructure upgrades and the expansion of commercial activities. Initiatives such as the redevelopment of New Delhi Railway Station into a world-class facility, the introduction of premium trains like the Vande Bharat Express, and the enhancement of amenities have significantly boosted passenger satisfaction and increased footfall.
