The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has exported power worth over INR 5.43 billion to India during the first two months of the current fiscal year. This significant cross-border energy exchange is a testament to Nepal’s growing role as a reliable source of electricity for its neighbour.
During the initial two months of the fiscal year, the NEA supplied electricity to India with a total value of INR 1.95 billion in the first month and INR 3.48 billion in the second month. The monthly average selling price stood at INR 8.13 paisa per unit for the first month and INR 12.27 paisa per unit for the second month. The cumulative average rate over the two-month period was recorded at INR 10.37 paisa per unit.
The Central Electricity Authority, operating under the Ministry of Power in India, has granted approval for the import of 632 mw electricity from Nepal. This cooperative energy trade is a testament to the energy cooperation between the two countries.
Nepal’s ability to export electricity to India underscores its growing capacity and contribution to the region’s power grid. This achievement not only bolsters Nepal’s revenue generation but also reinforces its position as a dependable energy partner for India.
As Nepal continues to harness its hydropower potential and enhance its electricity infrastructure, such cross-border collaborations are expected to play an increasingly vital role in meeting the energy needs of both nations and fostering economic growth in the region.
