The Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed 380-kilometre new railway line. This crucial corridor will connect Neemuch, Banswara, Dahod, and Nandurbar, promising to integrate previously isolated communities into the national mainstream. The initiative aligns with a broader vision for equitable urban growth and sustainable regional development, particularly benefiting areas rich in mineral resources.
The proposed railway line is strategically designed to establish a direct link between the Tapti rail section and the high-density Mumbai–New Delhi main corridor at Dahod. This new route will not only serve as the shortest connection through the Tapti section but also open a vital pathway through tribal-dominated Banswara for trains travelling between Delhi and Mumbai. The project is anticipated to deliver substantial benefits to six key cities spanning Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, fostering interconnectedness and economic synergy across state borders.
Banswara district in Rajasthan, despite its abundant mineral resources including manganese ore, dolomite, limestone, gold, copper, and quartzite, has historically remained unconnected to the Indian Railways network. The new line is set to unlock significant freight opportunities by providing a shorter, more efficient route for transporting these valuable minerals from the Neemuch–Banswara–Dahod belt. This infrastructure development is critical for enabling sustainable resource extraction and ensuring that the economic benefits reach the local communities, promoting a more equitable distribution of wealth.
Furthermore, the Dahod–Alirajpur–Nandurbar section, traversing through challenging hilly and tribal terrains, will gain a direct rail link, significantly improving accessibility for residents in remote areas. Beyond its immediate economic impact, officials anticipate that the new line will stimulate local economies, facilitate the integration of tribal populations into mainstream society, and significantly boost tourism across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.
