Infrastructure major NCC has bagged a significant ₹2,269 crore contract to deliver integrated system works for Mumbai Metro’s Line 6 corridor, strengthening its footprint in the country’s fast-growing urban mobility sector. The contract entails a wide array of engineering and technology components critical to the Swami Samarth Nagar–Vikhroli elevated metro line, which spans 14.47 kilometres and aims to ease east-west commuting in Mumbai.
According to metro rail officials, the scope of the awarded package covers the end-to-end design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of rolling stock, communication-based train control (CBTC) signalling systems, telecom infrastructure, platform screen doors, and advanced depot machinery. The execution period is slated for 24 months, to be followed by two years of defect liability coverage and an additional five years of comprehensive maintenance. Line 6 is seen as a vital link in Mumbai’s expanding metro network, connecting densely populated residential and commercial hubs like Lokhandwala, Jogeshwari, and Powai. It will offer multimodal connectivity by intersecting with other key corridors including Metro Lines 2A, 4, and 7, thereby supporting the city’s broader mobility integration agenda. Once operational, the line is expected to serve more than 8 lakh daily commuters and substantially reduce congestion on parallel road routes.
This win further strengthens NCC’s order book, which stood at ₹71,568 crore as of March 2025. The company recently announced fresh orders worth ₹1,690.5 crore across its buildings division. In Q4 FY25, NCC also reported a 6% year-on-year increase in net profit, reaching ₹253.8 crore, underscoring its consistent financial performance and project execution capability. Transport planners see the Line 6 systems package as crucial to ensuring reliable and energy-efficient metro services. By incorporating CBTC technology, the project will support high-frequency operations with enhanced safety and minimal manual intervention — in line with global best practices and India’s push for net-zero urban transport solutions.
With work commencing shortly, the contract is expected to accelerate Mumbai’s efforts to deliver inclusive, green, and high-capacity public transport infrastructure.
