NBCC (India) Ltd has formalised an agreement with the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) to implement the Naveen Nagpur Project, a 1,710-acre township initiative valued at Rs 2,966 crore. The project marks one of the largest integrated urban development efforts in the region, aiming to deliver modern, sustainable infrastructure while supporting long-term city growth and inclusive development.
Under the arrangement, NBCC, a Navratna central public sector enterprise, will act as both the executing agency and Project Management Consultant (PMC). The organisation will oversee the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR), financial feasibility studies, architectural and engineering designs, tendering, and construction management. “The focus is on delivering a township that blends quality infrastructure with sustainable, inclusive, and climate-conscious urban planning,” an official said. The project envisions a mixed-use urban ecosystem encompassing residential, commercial, and institutional spaces, supported by robust social infrastructure and modern amenities. Advanced mobility solutions will integrate walkable neighbourhoods with transport networks, while green planning principles will guide water, energy, and environmental management. The approach aligns with Nagpur’s commitment to net zero urban development, promoting efficient land use and reducing the city’s ecological footprint.
To ensure timely execution, an Empowered Committee, chaired by the Metropolitan Commissioner of NMRDA, will monitor progress and approve project plans. The committee, including senior representatives from both NBCC and NMRDA, will oversee deviations, review timelines, and report periodically to the Government of Maharashtra’s Steering Committee. A senior urban planner noted, “Effective governance structures are critical to translating ambitious plans into tangible urban outcomes, especially for a project of this scale.” The first phase of construction is slated for completion within three years, with potential extensions up to five years, contingent on committee approval. Industry experts highlight that such integrated township projects can significantly enhance urban mobility, housing accessibility, and employment opportunities, while fostering environmentally responsible development.
NBCC’s experience executing large-scale infrastructure projects across India will play a key role in meeting the project’s objectives. From sustainable housing to climate-friendly transport integration, the Naveen Nagpur Project is poised to set new benchmarks for inclusive and future-ready urban planning in central India. This initiative signals a transformative moment for Nagpur, creating a well-planned urban environment that balances growth with sustainability, inclusivity, and modern living standards for its residents.
