Navi Mumbai Residents Complain To CIDCO Over Kamothe Low Pressure Water Supply

Kamothe residents in Sector 34 are facing mounting frustration as irregular and low-pressure water supply continues to disrupt daily life for more than 1,000 households. The Mansarovar Complex Co-operative Housing Society Ltd. has formally lodged a complaint with CIDCO, highlighting that despite 929 flats and 82 commercial units, water distribution remains insufficient and inconsistent.

According to the society, water supply routed through the main road near Buildings 5 and 6 has been particularly unreliable over the past eight days. Daily allocations ranged from as low as five units to a maximum of 136 units, falling far short of meeting the demand of 1,031 connected units. Officials emphasised that such inconsistencies leave many residents without basic access to water for essential needs. The housing society pointed out that this is not the first instance of concern. A similar complaint was filed in July 2015, yet the problem persists, suggesting systemic gaps in water management and monitoring. Residents argue that delays in addressing the issue could exacerbate hardships, particularly during peak summer months when water demand is highest.

In their communication to CIDCO, the society warned that continued neglect may compel residents to escalate the matter through protests and direct appeals to government authorities. “Without timely corrective measures, we may have to take our concerns to the doorsteps of the government,” officials stated. The letter underscores the urgency for consistent supply, improved pressure regulation, and accountability in municipal water distribution. Experts highlight that uneven water pressure and irregular supply are often symptoms of ageing infrastructure, inadequate pipeline capacity, and distribution inefficiencies. In densely populated sectors like Kamothe, these issues not only affect domestic households but also strain local commercial establishments, schools, and healthcare facilities relying on a stable water supply.

CIDCO officials, while acknowledging the complaint, reiterated their commitment to resolving infrastructure challenges and ensuring equitable water distribution. The agency has indicated that technical teams are assessing pipeline networks to identify blockages, pressure drops, and possible system upgrades to meet resident entitlements. The Kamothe case reflects broader challenges faced by rapidly urbanising areas in ensuring sustainable and reliable civic infrastructure. As the city expands, citizen engagement and proactive maintenance by authorities remain critical to prevent recurring shortages.
