NMMC’s Encroachment Department carried out a demolition drive in Belapur, removing an illegal structure in Divale village, Sector 14. The action comes after repeated notices under the MRTP Act Section 54 went unheeded by the property owner. Officials emphasized that enforcement measures are being strengthened to ensure civic compliance and uphold sustainable urban planning principles.
The structure, previously identified as non-compliant, was dismantled under supervision of senior NMMC officials, supported by a dedicated team of encroachment personnel and machinery, including a poclain, gas cutter, and hammers. Security and police personnel were deployed to ensure orderly execution. The demolition forms part of NMMC’s ongoing efforts to maintain city infrastructure standards and protect urban public spaces. NMMC officials stated that despite several opportunities to voluntarily remove the structure, the property owner continued construction activities, leaving the civic body with no alternative but enforcement. “This operation reflects our commitment to upholding legal frameworks and urban planning guidelines. Similar measures will continue across all wards,” said an official from the encroachment department.
The incident underscores the persistent challenge of unauthorised developments in rapidly urbanising areas. With Belapur witnessing growing commercial and residential development, irregular constructions pose risks to planned urban infrastructure, environmental management, and civic safety.
