Navi Mumbai Faces Water Disruptions After Morbe Dam Pipeline Leakage
Navi Mumbai is set to experience significant water supply disruptions following a major leakage in the main pipeline from the Morbe Dam near Kalamboli. The breach, which occurred near Marble Market, has prompted the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to halt water supply from the Bhokarpada Water Treatment Plant to carry out urgent repairs.
The pipeline, which has a diameter of 2042 mm, is a critical conduit for water supply to Navi Mumbai and surrounding areas, including CIDCO regions like Kharghar and Kamothe. The NMMC has confirmed that while repair work is being carried out on an expedited basis, residents will experience no water supply this evening. In addition to the evening disruption, the water supply on the morning of February 13 will be at a reduced pressure due to the ongoing repairs. As the authorities work to resolve the issue, the NMMC has appealed to residents to use water sparingly and cooperate with the temporary measures in place. The civic body is prioritising the repair to restore normal supply as quickly as possible, but residents are advised to make alternative arrangements until full service is reinstated.
The repair work on the pipeline is a critical step to avoid any further damage to the water distribution system and to ensure that water continues to flow to the affected areas once the issue is resolved. In the interim, the NMMC has urged all residents to remain patient and follow instructions regarding water usage to minimise the inconvenience. This disruption follows a series of similar issues in the region, highlighting the challenges in maintaining the infrastructure that supports water supply to Navi Mumbai. As authorities continue to address this current issue, future preventative measures may be considered to minimise such disruptions.
