Navi Mumbai has deployed approximately 4,000 police personnel to maintain law and order during the 10-day festivities of Ganeshotsav 2024. The security strategy, directed by Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe, involves personnel from various forces, including the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), riot control units, Quick Response Teams (QRTs), and striking forces, who will be operating around the clock to ensure a safe and smooth celebration.
The comprehensive security measures include continuous patrolling on major roads and junctions to enhance surveillance and prevent any untoward incidents. Commissioner Bharambe emphasized that the objective is to provide a safe environment for devotees and citizens during the celebrations. In addition to deploying personnel, the police held meetings with Ganesh mandals to discuss and implement effective safety protocols. This includes proper barricading and crowd management, especially at pandals with significant footfall. Separate queues for men and women have been organized to prevent incidents of harassment.
Furthermore, CCTV cameras have been installed at several locations, along with the provision of electrical meters and fire extinguishers at pandals to prevent any fire-related mishaps. Special attention is being given to the safety of women and children, with the emergency number 112 active around the clock. The police have set a targeted response time of five to ten minutes in case of any emergency, ensuring rapid assistance to citizens. The overlapping celebrations of Ganeshotsav and Eid-e-Milad have also been addressed, with additional security arrangements in place for the Eid-e-Milad processions scheduled for September 16 in Zone 2 and September 18 in Zone 1 of Navi Mumbai. The Navi Mumbai Police Department is confident that these robust measures will ensure a secure and joyous environment for all residents and devotees participating in the Ganeshotsav 2024 festivities.
