Nashik set for Rs 6000 crore ring road project in two weeks

Nashik is set to take a transformative leap in infrastructure development with a Rs 6,000 crore ring road project that officials confirmed will see a tender floated in the next two weeks. The project, designed to ease mounting traffic congestion and strengthen connectivity, is being prioritised ahead of the forthcoming Kumbh Mela, a major congregation that places immense pressure on the city’s transport network.

According to senior state officials, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation will lead the project execution, which is expected to become a backbone for Nashik’s urban growth. Alongside the ring road, the administration has assured that key development initiatives—completion of arterial roads, upgraded railway infrastructure, and improved air connectivity—will also be fast-tracked to match the city’s expanding population and economic ambitions.

The announcement came during the inauguration of a major property exhibition hosted by the real estate developers’ association in Nashik, which showcased more than 500 housing options from over 80 developers. Experts at the event described the exhibition as a signal of Nashik’s rising stature as an investment hub, supported by its expanding industrial base and growing appeal as a residential city.

While economic opportunities dominated the agenda, officials underscored the importance of sustainability in city-making. They urged developers to adopt environmentally conscious construction practices, emphasising that unchecked pollution and untreated sewage remain pressing concerns. The need to protect the Godavari river, which continues to receive untreated waste, was highlighted as a responsibility shared by both government and industry. Such reminders underline the balancing act between rapid urbanisation and ecological stewardship in Nashik’s growth narrative.

Urban planners believe the ring road project could serve as a model of integrated development if executed with a green lens. With Nashik aiming to position itself as a global city, stakeholders are increasingly framing its future around four growth pillars—industry, tourism, education, and culture. The planned road network, if aligned with eco-friendly design and sustainable mobility solutions, could become a catalyst not just for easing congestion, but for reshaping Nashik into an inclusive and future-ready metropolis.
