Nashik Road Network Expansion Gets Central Green Light
Central authorities have given in-principle approval for major road upgrades to manage the surge of pilgrims expected during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik. The plan includes developing key highways and internal roads, aiming to ease congestion and ensure safety. Detailed Project Reports are being prepared, with funding for the Nashik Ring Road and Trimbakeshwar highway already in discussion.
Road infrastructure in Nashik is set for a major transformation in preparation for the upcoming Kumbh Mela. With lakhs of devotees expected, experts have highlighted the urgency of improving connectivity. Multiple key corridors, including roads to Mumbai, Gujarat, Pune, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, have been prioritised. Officials confirmed that DPRs are being readied, and funds will be allocated to ensure timely completion.
Alongside external highways, attention is also being given to internal city roads that connect Nashik’s religious and logistical zones to national highways. These routes often face severe congestion during large gatherings. The proposed works aim to enhance traffic management, reduce bottlenecks, and improve overall urban mobility. The Nashik Ring Road and the six-laning of the Trimbakeshwar stretch are among the headline projects cleared.
Civic engineers and transport officials plan to expand Dwarka Circle, a critical intersection in Nashik, in two phases. The idea is to finish the first phase before the Kumbh Mela, easing city traffic flow for incoming pilgrims. The model follows infrastructure templates used at other high-pressure junctions in cities like Navi Mumbai, ensuring smoother internal circulation during peak periods.
Other planned road expansions include links between Ghoti, Shirdi, Manmad, and Rahuri, crucial for distributing traffic across religious circuits. Officials aim to complete pre-Kumbh works ahead of time, while additional upgrades will continue post-event. This roadmap, if implemented efficiently, could leave Nashik with significantly enhanced road infrastructure, benefitting residents and visitors alike beyond the Kumbh season.
