Nampally Market Road Repairs in Limbo

Hyderabad’s Nampally market road has become a treacherous stretch for residents and businesses alike, as ongoing road repairs have ground to a halt, leaving the area in disarray. The incomplete work has turned the road into a hazardous zone filled with stones, mud, potholes, and dislodged manhole covers, severely impeding pedestrian movement and making vehicle travel nearly impossible.

For over two months, road repairs from Nampally market towards Dargah Yousufain have been stagnant, causing significant disruption to daily life and commerce in the area. Residents and shopkeepers alike have borne the brunt of this neglect, with the unfinished repairs leading to unsafe conditions and economic hardship. “The deplorable state of the road has barred access for autos and ambulances to this crucial 200-meter section,” lamented a local resident. “Transportation and emergency medical services have been severely hindered, affecting thousands. Navigating this stretch has become a strenuous ordeal, especially for the elderly and children.” The adverse effects extend beyond daily inconveniences. A local chicken centre owner shared his frustration over the drastic decline in business due to the road’s poor condition. “What was once a bustling stretch now sees only a few patrons. Typically, I earn ₹25,000 from chicken sales during peak hours on Sundays, but in the past month, my earnings have plummeted to ₹1,500 – ₹2,000. The deteriorating road has caused a 90% drop in customer footfall, severely impacting our livelihoods.”

Another shopkeeper emphasised the urgent need to complete the road repairs, highlighting the prolonged disruption’s detrimental effects on the social and economic well-being of the Nampally market community. “The ongoing chaos is harming both our businesses and our daily lives. We need the authorities to act swiftly to resolve this issue.” Officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) attributed the suspension of the repair works to pending bills owed to contractors. They assured that once the financial issues are resolved, the stalled projects will resume promptly. “We understand the difficulties faced by the residents and shopkeepers,” a GHMC official stated. “We are working towards clearing the outstanding payments to contractors to expedite the completion of the road repairs.” The plight of Nampally market road serves as a stark reminder of the critical need for timely infrastructure maintenance and the profound impact that delays and neglect can have on urban communities. As the monsoon season approaches, the urgency to address these issues and restore normalcy to the area becomes even more pressing.
