The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) has opened the two stretches of the Purple Line, connecting Challaghatta to Kadugodi (Whitefield) without any formal inauguration. The Purple Line now spans from Challaghatta to Kadugodi, covering a total distance of 43 km, with a journey time of 80 minutes on a Metro train. The entire Purple Line encompasses 37 stations, making it a lifeline for commuters in Bengaluru.
For the first time in the history of the BMRCL, these new stretches were made operational without the customary formal inauguration or the presence of VIPs. This decision was prompted by intense pressure from regular metro users and the general public who advocated for the swift opening of these vital connections.
This development has greatly improved the convenience and efficiency of metro travel in the city. Keerthana P, a regular metro passenger, highlighted the positive impact of these new stretches, stating, “Earlier, people used to spend at least 30 minutes to reach KR Puram Metro station from Byappanahalli after exiting the metro station. Now, within a few minutes, they can cross the stretch and travel towards Whitefield.”
The completion of the Purple Line represents a significant step forward in Bengaluru’s Metro network, offering residents enhanced connectivity and the ability to traverse the city with ease. This expansion is expected to facilitate more seamless and efficient daily commutes for countless individuals in the region. .
