Kamptee, a suburban town adjoining Nagpur, is poised for a significant infrastructure transformation as the Centre clears a comprehensive road and transit upgrade. The Jabalpur–Nagpur National Highway that cuts through Kamptee will be widened to 18 metres, replacing the congested and encroached 7-metre corridor that has long troubled commuters and hindered economic activity.
A recent high-level meeting on regional infrastructure concluded with a firm directive to initiate encroachment removal based on demarcation records dating back to the 1912–13 land survey. Officials confirmed that the widening plan would be executed in coordination between the local administration, municipal bodies, and MahaMetro. The effort is positioned not only as a traffic relief measure but a foundation for future urban and economic growth. Parallel to the highway project, the Centre has also greenlit the development of a commercial complex on Nazul land near the upcoming Metro station in Kamptee. Strategically located near the tehsil office, bus stand, and other civic nodes, the complex is expected to host a mix of retail, office, and transport-support infrastructure. Authorities believe this will ease existing urban pressures while unlocking new employment and business opportunities for the growing suburb.
In a broader push to enhance regional connectivity, the Centre approved multiple road infrastructure projects. These include granting National Highway status to the Khairangna–Kondhali–Katol–Sawargaon–Badchicholi stretch and allocating central funding for the Mauda–Mathani–Chapegadi–Kuhi state highway. Additionally, the detailed project report for a new corridor linking Karanja in Washim to the Madhya Pradesh border via Narkhed has been cleared. Authorities have also outlined plans to redevelop areas like Neelam Lawn and Shukravari Bazaar into mixed-use civic-commercial precincts. In a bid to maintain inclusive growth, 30% of the area in these projects will be reserved for rehabilitating affected vendors. The remaining 70% will host facilities such as a mall, food courts, and public spaces, transforming the precinct into a modern urban node.
A new Metro station near the prominent Dragon Palace landmark is also in the pipeline. This station is expected to dramatically improve last-mile connectivity for Kamptee’s residents and strengthen the town’s integration with Nagpur’s broader urban transport grid. The recent infrastructure approvals place Kamptee at the centre of a multi-layered development strategy aimed at relieving urban pressure, fostering transit-oriented development, and positioning the suburb as a future-ready economic and civic hub. While the projects still require coordinated execution and community engagement, officials indicate a clear momentum towards realising a new urban vision for Kamptee.
