Nagpur Pune Vande Bharat Express Sees Over 150 Passengers On Waiting List

The newly inaugurated Nagpur–Pune Vande Bharat Express has emerged as a remarkable success, registering overwhelming demand within days of its launch. Passenger bookings indicate that the Sunday service has already crossed a waiting list of 150, highlighting the route’s rapid acceptance and the growing preference for high-speed rail connectivity between major urban centres in Maharashtra.

According to railway officials, the train, consisting of eight coaches with a total of 530 seats, has been operating at near-full capacity since its introduction. The configuration includes 478 Chair Car (CC) seats priced at ₹2,140 each and 52 Executive Chair Car (ECC) seats at ₹3,815, which are priced higher than some AC first-tier fares on conventional sleeper services. The popularity of the service is evident from occupancy figures that have surpassed 134 percent when waiting list bookings are included. Comparative data suggests that the Nagpur–Pune Vande Bharat has outperformed other services on the same network. For instance, the Nagpur–Secunderabad Vande Bharat, with similar operational schedules, recorded waiting lists of 61 for Sunday and 19 for Monday, while the Nagpur–Bilaspur service, offering greater seating capacity, had no waiting list. Analysts attribute the unprecedented demand to the route’s strategic relevance, convenience, and faster travel times, positioning it as a preferred choice for business and leisure travellers alike.

Passenger feedback underscores the importance of the new service during high-traffic periods such as national holidays and festive weekends. With the Independence Day long weekend coinciding with the initial operational days, passengers found the train critical for timely travel between Nagpur and Pune, especially for family reunions and professional commitments. Experts point out that such demand reflects a shift in commuter behaviour towards premium, eco-friendly rail travel, reducing road congestion and carbon emissions in the long term. Railway authorities emphasise that the service is not operational on Mondays, and advanced booking is advised, particularly for weekend travel, to manage the burgeoning demand. They also note that additional measures may be considered in future, including coach augmentation or frequency adjustments, to sustain service efficiency and passenger convenience.

From an operational perspective, the surge in bookings demonstrates the commercial viability of the Vande Bharat platform for mid-to-long distance corridors. Analysts indicate that expanding such high-speed rail services can provide sustainable, high-capacity travel options, aligning with national goals for environmentally responsible transport and urban mobility enhancement. The Nagpur–Pune Vande Bharat thus represents a model for integrating speed, comfort, and sustainability in modern rail infrastructure. With strategic planning and continued monitoring of passenger trends, railway authorities aim to enhance both service reliability and traveller satisfaction, fostering greater adoption of eco-conscious urban and intercity mobility solutions.
