Municipal Commissioner Halts Kandivli Slum Rehab Amid Irregularity Probe

Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani took decisive action on Friday by suspending a slum rehabilitation project undertaken by Sai Azad Sahakari Gruhnirman Sanstha A & B in Kandivli, following the discovery of irregularities related to excess allotments.

The decision to halt the project came in response to complaints of fraudulent allotments raised by BJP MLA Yogesh Sagar, prompting a thorough investigation by the civic vigilance committee. Acting on Gagrani’s directives, the vigilance committee conducted a comprehensive inspection of the proposed rehabilitation site, which revealed glaring discrepancies and fraudulent practices. According to the vigilance report submitted to the municipal chief, the project aimed to rehabilitate slum dwellers in the Sai Azad Sahakari Grunirman Sanstha A & B area. However, investigations uncovered a significant number of falsified slum allotments, indicating a deliberate attempt to deceive the authorities.

An official from the vigilance department stated, “On inspection, it was found that 55-60 additional slums had been fabricated to deceive the authorities.” This revelation underscores the seriousness of the irregularities and the need for immediate intervention to rectify the situation and ensure accountability. The suspension of the slum rehabilitation project reflects the commitment of the municipal administration to uphold transparency and integrity in all development initiatives. By taking proactive measures to address allegations of fraud and irregularities, Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani has demonstrated leadership and accountability in safeguarding public resources and restoring public trust. The suspension of the Kandivli slum rehabilitation project serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilant governance and the need for robust systems to detect and deter corruption in development projects. It is incumbent upon the authorities to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness to ensure that public resources are utilised effectively for the benefit of all citizens.
