Mumbai’s Nahur Station Set for Expansion with New Platform and Road Bridge
Central Railway (CR) has officially commenced work on converting Nahur Railway Station into a double-discharge platform, marking a significant upgrade to one of Mumbai’s growing railway hubs. Located strategically near the Airoli road connector, Nahur has seen a surge in passenger traffic, underlining the necessity for enhanced facilities.
The new double-discharge platform is set to become the station’s primary platform, addressing the current limitations of the west side access. The existing access to this side has been restricted to a narrow public pathway and an entrance to a private industrial site, which has proven insufficient to handle the increasing passenger load. The upgraded platform will offer better accessibility and will cater to the growing number of commuters using the station daily. In addition to the platform, the ongoing project includes widening the existing road bridge to facilitate smoother connectivity and ease the flow of passengers from both sides of the station. These upgrades are in line with Central Railway’s plans for the 2023-24 financial year, which also include expanding facilities at other key stations like Diva and Vidyavihar.
As per recent statistics, Nahur station handles an average of 69,060 tickets sold daily, a number that is expected to rise further with the new infrastructure in place. The development will also significantly reduce congestion at the station, offering commuters improved convenience and a more comfortable travel experience. Originally opened on 21st April 2006, Nahur has steadily evolved into an important transit point for Mumbai’s suburban network. The double-discharge platform project is part of the broader efforts by Central Railway to upgrade and modernise the infrastructure across the city’s railway stations to accommodate increasing passenger volumes and ensure smoother operations. With work already underway, commuters can look forward to improved facilities and better access, further enhancing the daily travel experience at this bustling station.
