Mumbai’s Gateway of India Becomes Cultural Hub on Republic Day
This Republic Day, the iconic Gateway of India transformed into a cultural haven as it hosted Jashn-e-Hindustan, an evening dedicated to Urdu poetry, ghazals, and Sufi music. Organised by the Maharashtra Government’s Minority Development Department in collaboration with the Maharashtra State Urdu Sahitya Academy, the event highlighted the rich linguistic and artistic heritage of India, drawing attendees from diverse backgrounds.
Ruchesh Jaiwanshi, Secretary of the Minority Development Department and chief guest of the event, remarked, “Urdu is not just a language; it is a reflection of our history and traditions. Events like these preserve its beauty and foster unity.” His sentiments resonated with the audience, setting the tone for an evening of artistic celebration. The program featured poetry recitations by celebrated poets such as Monika Singh, Shahid Latif, Siraj Solapuri, Dr. Kamar Surur Farooqui, and Naim Faraz. Their verses, rich in emotion and cultural depth, captivated the audience, showcasing the enduring charm of Urdu literature. Adding a musical touch, renowned ghazal singer Siraj Ahmed Khan enthralled attendees with his melodious renditions, while Salman Ali’s soulful Sufi performances created an atmosphere of spiritual connection.
