Mumbai’s Clear Skies, Rising Temperatures on February 8

The metropolis of Mumbai is gearing up for a predominantly clear day on February 8, as predicted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). As the city heads towards the weekend, citizens can expect a slight rise in temperatures, signaling a shift from the cool, crisp days of early February to a more typical, warmer winter pattern. The weather is expected to remain largely pleasant throughout the day, with the temperature peaking at 33°C and a low of 23°C.

With a light breeze flowing at around 6 km/h and humidity levels hovering at 56%, residents can look forward to a relatively calm day. While the temperatures may gradually increase throughout the day, making for a warmer afternoon, the city will continue to witness pleasant weather, with no significant disruptions. The day will begin with a sunrise at 7:10 AM, with the sunset anticipated at 6:35 PM, marking a full day of sunshine. However, while the weather may appear favourable, the Air Quality Index (AQI) paints a concerning picture for Mumbai. As of the latest reports, the city’s overall air quality is moderate, with the AQI in Colaba pegged at 98, which falls under the ‘Satisfactory’ category. While not immediately harmful, individuals with respiratory issues are advised to limit outdoor exposure.

A number of areas across the city, particularly in the central and southern zones, are grappling with a marked decline in air quality, as seen in places like Malad West (AQI 286) and Shivaji Nagar (AQI 215), which fall under the ‘Poor’ category. For other parts of Mumbai, the AQI remains in the ‘Moderate’ range, including prominent locales such as Worli (145), Bandra Kurla Complex (171), and Powai (152). The India Meteorological Department has urged caution, particularly for vulnerable groups, as the air quality is expected to persist in the moderate to poor range across various areas. With the weather forecasted to stay clear over the coming days, and the temperatures remaining on the higher side, Mumbaikars are advised to stay vigilant of their exposure to outdoor pollutants and consider wearing masks when stepping out, especially in areas marked with poor air quality. As the weekend nears, it is clear that while Mumbai’s skies are set to remain clear, the air quality will require attention, especially in areas where the pollution levels have crossed the ‘Moderate’ threshold.
