Mumbai Weather predicts High Tide

Mumbai is set to experience intermittent moderate rainfall throughout the day, according to the latest weather forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The city and its suburbs are expected to see generally cloudy skies with sporadic rain showers over the next 24 hours.

The maximum temperature is anticipated to hover around 30 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be approximately 26 degrees Celsius. This weather pattern aligns with the ongoing monsoon season, which has already led to significant rainfall in the region. In addition to the rain, a high tide of approximately 4.08 metres is forecasted to impact Mumbai at 1:36 PM today. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also predicted a low tide of about 0.87 metres later in the day at 7:36 PM. These tidal fluctuations could potentially influence coastal activities and may lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Earlier today, the city witnessed slow traffic at Andheri Bridge due to a tempo breakdown; however, traffic conditions have otherwise remained smooth. Updates from Central Railway and Western Railway confirm that train services are operating normally across all corridors without disruptions. Mumbai’s water reservoirs, crucial for the city’s drinking water supply, are at a robust 98.06% capacity as of the latest BMC report. The collective water stock in the seven reservoirs stands at 14,19,276 million litres. Among these, Modak Sagar and Vihar Lakes are at full capacity, while Tansa Lake is nearly full at 99.58%. Other reservoirs like Middle Vaitarna and Bhatsa are also at high levels, ranging from 97% to 98%.

Recent heavy rains have led to several reservoirs overflowing, including Middle Vaitarna Lake which began overflowing on July 4. Other lakes, such as Vihar and Modak Sagar, followed suit later in the month. Tansa Lake, a significant water source for Mumbai, started overflowing on July 26, 2024. Tulsi Lake also overflowed on July 20, mirroring its overflow event from the previous year. As Mumbai navigates these weather conditions, residents are advised to stay updated on local forecasts and be cautious of high tides and potential waterlogging in vulnerable areas.
