Mumbai To Host India’s First Climate Week In February 2026
Mumbai is set to take centre stage in global climate diplomacy as it prepares to host India’s first-ever Mumbai Climate Week (MCW) in February 2026. The landmark event will position the city as a key platform for collaborative climate leadership across the Global South, marking a major step towards inclusive, citizen-driven climate governance.
Organised by Project Mumbai in partnership with the Maharashtra Department of Environment and Climate Change, and supported by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the three-day event will convene delegates from over 30 countries. Participants will include urban leaders, policymakers, corporates, youth representatives, and civil society groups all uniting to shape actionable pathways for a sustainable and equitable future.Officials involved in the planning stated that Mumbai Climate Week 2026 will provide a first-of-its-kind forum for developing nations to align on solutions that address climate adaptation, energy transition, and food system transformation. “The initiative will bring together diverse voices from the Global South to design implementable climate solutions, rooted in justice and innovation,” an official from the organising committee said.
The event’s inaugural edition will revolve around three interlinked pillars Food Systems, Energy Transition, and Urban Resilience each examined through the lenses of justice, funding, and innovation. Partner organisations including India Climate Collaborative, The Climate Group, and WRI India will anchor these themes through data-driven discussions and community-led showcases.Beyond high-level policy dialogues, citizen participation will remain at the heart of the event. From climate-themed art, wellness, and cinema to sports and food festivals promoting sustainable consumption, MCW aims to make environmental awareness accessible to every Mumbaikar. Experts say this approach reflects the city’s evolving identity as both a financial hub and a climate-conscious metropolis.
Strategic knowledge support from Monitor Deloitte will ensure that global best practices are tailored to India’s local context. Preparatory workshops, research reports, and post-event documentation will capture key insights to inform future policymaking and urban design.
The Mumbai Climate Week, scheduled for 17–19 February 2026 at the Jio World Convention Centre, seeks to cement India’s growing leadership in global climate action.
