The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a planned water supply disruption in several parts of Mumbai, including Andheri (East), Jogeshwari (East), and Marol, on Monday, September 2, 2024.
The shutdown, scheduled from 1:00 AM to 1:00 PM, is aimed at facilitating critical infrastructure upgrades, particularly the replacement of a valve on the 900-mm diameter inlet pipeline at Veravali Reservoir 2. The 12-hour water cut will result in a complete disruption of supply in several areas within the K-East and K-West Wards. The BMC has advised residents to stock up on water in advance and use it judiciously during the outage. Water supply will resume post completion of the works, although it may initially be restored at lower pressure.
Affected Areas and timings are as follows, In the K-East Ward, localities such as Majas Village, Samarth Nagar, Sarvodaya Nagar, Indira Nagar, Janata Colony, Hind Nagar, Datt Tekdi, and several other areas will experience a total water cut during their usual supply timings. Meanwhile, areas like Mahakali Road, Poonam Nagar, Takshashila Road, and Sher-e-Punjab will also be affected, with disruptions expected between 4:30 AM and 7:50 AM. Residents of Sundar Nagar, Gautam Nagar, and Modern Bakery can expect disruptions between 5:00 AM and 8:00 AM. Similarly, areas like Tripathi Nagar, Munshi Colony, Bastiwala Colony, and Sariput Nagar will face cuts from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, while others such as Durga Nagar and Matoshree Club will experience outages between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
In the K-West Ward, several regions, including Barfiwala Road, Upashray Lane, Swami Vivekananda Road, and Andheri Market, will face disruptions from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Other affected areas include Patel Estate, Vaishali Nagar, Amrit Nagar, and Ajit Glass Garden, with outages anticipated from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Localities like Char Bangla, D. N. Nagar, and Juhu Versova Link Road will see cuts between 12:15 PM and 2:10 PM. This water supply disruption is part of the BMC’s ongoing efforts to enhance Mumbai’s water supply infrastructure. The replacement of the valve at Veravali Reservoir 2 is expected to improve water distribution efficiency and minimise future leakages or disruptions. While the shutdown may cause inconvenience to residents, it is deemed necessary for long-term benefits.
The BMC has further advised that upon resumption, water supply might initially be at reduced pressure, urging citizens to be mindful of water usage in the hours immediately following the restoration. This move is indicative of the city’s broader strategy to modernise its ageing water supply network, addressing both capacity and efficiency concerns. Residents are encouraged to stay updated with BMC notifications to prepare adequately for any planned outages or maintenance activities in the future.
