Heavy rainfall overnight has led to significant waterlogging on Ghodbunder Road, causing severe traffic jams between Mumbai and Thane. The persistent downpour disrupted the morning commute, leading to delays for office-goers and affecting local train and flight schedules. According to reports, vehicles were seen lined up for several kilometers near Anand Nagar on Ghodbunder Road.
The waterlogging in low-lying areas further exacerbated the situation, leading to bumper-to-bumper traffic. The Mumbai Traffic Police issued advisories urging citizens to avoid coastal and low-lying areas and provided emergency helpline numbers: 100, 112, or 103. In addition to the waterlogging, a portion of the road near Girgaon Metro station in South Mumbai caved in during the early hours of Monday. A BEST bus became stuck in the collapsed section, further disrupting traffic flow. Authorities are working to repair the damage and restore normalcy.
The heavy rainfall also led to waterlogging in other parts of Mumbai and Thane, affecting local train and metro services. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for Raigad and an orange alert for Mumbai, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall. The intense monsoon activity has already started impacting travel, disrupting both train and flight services in the region. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, stay updated on weather alerts, and follow traffic advisories issued by local authorities. The situation remains fluid, and authorities are working to mitigate the impact of the ongoing rainfall.
For real-time updates, commuters can follow official social media handles of the Mumbai Traffic Police and the Thane Municipal Corporation. Additionally, local news outlets are providing continuous coverage of the situation. As the monsoon season continues, residents are urged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains, and report any incidents of waterlogging or road damage to the authorities promptly.
