Mumbai is set for an aggressive transformation in its transport and civic infrastructure, with the state leadership announcing a comprehensive 18-month plan to deliver pothole-free roads, cleaner neighbourhoods and a vastly expanded metro network. The initiative aims to position the city as a modern, sustainable urban centre while tackling long-standing infrastructure gaps that have frustrated residents for years.
Officials confirmed that Mumbai’s road concretisation drive is in full swing, with the goal of eliminating potholes by the end of the timeline. In parallel, seven sewage treatment plants are under construction to prevent untreated waste from flowing into the sea an environmental measure that has been overdue for decades. These projects are part of a broader push for cleaner air, safer roads and an eco-friendlier cityscape, aligning with global sustainability targets.The metro network, a critical component in reducing Mumbai’s traffic congestion and carbon footprint, is also undergoing significant expansion. Plans are in motion to grow the network to 350–400 kilometres, with an emphasis on last-mile connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
