Mumbai Reports 379 Covid Cases Since January

Maharashtra has reported a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, with 76 new infections recorded on Thursday, bringing the total number of cases since January 1 to 597.

The state’s active case count now stands at 425, while 165 patients have recovered. Seven fatalities have been reported since January, six of whom had underlying health conditions. Mumbai continues to be the epicenter, accounting for 379 cases since the beginning of the year. Notably, 373 of these cases were reported in May alone, indicating a sharp uptick in infections. Other affected regions include Pune with 21 new cases, Thane Municipal Corporation with 12, Kalyan Municipal Corporation with 8, Navi Mumbai with 4, Kolhapur and Ahilyanagar Municipal Corporations with 1 each, and Raigad district with 2 new cases.

In Thane city, 14 new cases were reported on Thursday, raising the active case count to 86. Among these, 17 patients are hospitalized in stable condition, while 52 are under home isolation. The remaining patients have completed their isolation period and have recovered. Health officials attribute the recent surge to factors such as cooler weather and waning immunity. However, they emphasize that the majority of cases are mild, and there is no cause for alarm. The state is actively conducting surveys for Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) to monitor the situation.

Despite the rise in cases, the state’s healthcare infrastructure remains robust, with adequate testing and treatment facilities available. Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant but not to panic, as measures are in place to manage the situation effectively.
