The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has initiated a transformative urbanisation blueprint for Alibaug and sections of Pen, Panvel, and Khalapur, now officially integrated into the vast Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). This ambitious plan seeks to convert these predominantly rural areas into vibrant urban extensions, complete with designated industrial zones, residential complexes, and enhanced tourism infrastructure. A cornerstone of this development is a substantial ₹325 crore road improvement project spanning across 10 villages, which will see 10 major thoroughfares concretised over the next 24 months, promising a new era of connectivity and planned growth.
The preparation of a comprehensive Development Plan (DP) for these newly integrated areas signifies a strategic shift in regional planning, aimed at accommodating Mumbai’s ever-expanding urban footprint in a structured and sustainable manner.
