Mumbai residents woke up to light showers on Friday morning as the monsoon held steady across the city and surrounding regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast scattered rainfall throughout the day, with cloudy skies expected to dominate and brief moderate spells possible in isolated locations.
According to weather officials, daytime temperatures in Mumbai are projected to hover around 30 degrees Celsius, while humidity levels remain high. The evening could bring heavier bursts of rainfall, particularly in the island city and western suburbs. With citizens gathering at beaches to mark Narali Pournima, civic authorities have urged caution due to the likelihood of wet and slippery conditions. Neighbouring areas such as Thane and Navi Mumbai have also reported overnight drizzles and are likely to see similar weather patterns today. High humidity and overcast conditions are forecast for much of the day. In Palghar, light to moderate rain has continued over the past 48 hours, and while no extreme rainfall is expected, officials anticipate continued cloudy skies.
Further south, the Konkan belt remains under IMD’s yellow alert for the third straight day. Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Raigad districts have seen intense rainfall, with more showers likely later today. Thunderstorm activity with lightning is possible, and residents have been advised to avoid venturing into low-lying or flood-prone zones during peak rainfall hours. Western Maharashtra, including Kolhapur and the ghat sections, is also likely to witness very heavy rainfall. Pune, Sangli, Satara, and Solapur districts may receive showers accompanied by gusty winds and lightning activity. Yellow alerts have been issued across these districts in view of the active monsoon phase.
In North Maharashtra, isolated heavy showers are expected in Nashik and Ahmednagar, while Dhule, Jalgaon, and Nandurbar are forecast to receive moderate rainfall. IMD officials have cautioned that waterlogging and localised flooding may occur in some urban pockets, especially where drainage systems remain overwhelmed. Marathwada, including eight key districts such as Jalna, Latur, Nanded, and Dharashiv, is predicted to receive significant downpours through the day. Authorities have flagged Beed district for particularly heavy spells, advising residents to remain indoors during storms.
In Vidarbha, Wardha, Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli have all been placed under weather alerts, though rainfall is expected to be lighter in the region compared to coastal and western zones. With the monsoon system remaining active across the state, weather watchers advise continued vigilance in vulnerable areas. While the rains bring much-needed relief to water reservoirs and agricultural fields, urban regions must brace for temporary disruptions and manage localised risks with caution.
