Mumbai MHADA Lottery Generates Strong Interest With Over 75,000 Applications

The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has reported a significant response to its latest Mumbai lottery, receiving over 75,571 applications. Notably, around 55,000 applicants have already submitted their earnest money deposit, demonstrating a strong commitment to securing an affordable home.

This robust response underscores the persistent demand for affordable housing options in Mumbai, a city grappling with high property prices. MHADA, a government body, offers a crucial alternative for middle-class and low-income residents seeking to purchase a home. The computerised lottery draw, scheduled for October 8th, 2024, will determine the allocation of the available units. Applicants who opted for RTGS/NEFT for their earnest money deposit have until September 19th to complete the transaction within their respective bank’s operational hours.

Transparency remains a key focus for MHADA. The provisional list of applications will be published on their official website (https://housing.mhada.gov.in) on September 27th, 2024, at 6 pm. This allows applicants to scrutinize the list and submit any objections or claims online until September 29th, 2024, by midnight. The final, verified list of accepted applications will be posted on the same website on October 3rd, 2024, at 6 pm. The online application process, which commenced in August, has facilitated greater accessibility for potential homeowners. This year’s lottery offers a diverse range of units, catering to various income brackets. A total of 359 units are reserved for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), 627 for the Lower Income Group (LIG), 768 for the Middle Income Group (MIG), and 276 for the Higher Income Group (HIG).

MHADA’s Mumbai Board is offering a mix of 1,327 units constructed by the authority itself and 370 units procured from developers under redevelopment projects. Importantly, 333 units from previous lotteries are also included, providing a wider selection for applicants. To ensure transparency and safeguard against fraudulent practices, MHADA emphasizes that it has not appointed any representatives, consultants, or property agents for the sale of these homes. Applicants are strongly advised to avoid engaging with unauthorized individuals claiming to represent MHADA. The authority will not be held responsible for any fraudulent transactions that may occur.
