The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has awarded Colossus Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. a substantial INR 33 crore contract. This contract, part of package CA-249, encompasses the electrical and mechanical (E&M) works for five pivotal stations on the Yellow Line (Line 2B) of the Mumbai Metro network.
The stations slated for these critical upgrades include Diamond Nagar, Shivaji Chowk, BSNL, Mankhur, and Mandale. These stations are currently under construction by NCC Ltd. as part of Package CA-07. The E&M contract is integral to ensuring the operational efficiency and reliability of these stations upon completion. The process leading to this award commenced in February with the issuance of a tender by MMRDA for the E&M works on Line 2B, initially estimated at INR 30.04 crore with a completion timeline of 2.7 years.
Technical bids were scrutinised on 31 May, revealing two contenders. When financial bids were opened on 18 June, Colossus emerged as the lowest bidder with a bid of INR 35.60 crore, while Jackson submitted a bid of INR 37.99 crore. Although Colossus’s bid exceeded the estimated budget by approximately 18.5%, MMRDA negotiated the final contract value down to INR 33.95 crore. The scope of Colossus’s work includes the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, and personnel training for the E&M systems on Line 2B. The contract also stipulates a two-year Defect Liability Period (DLP) to ensure the quality and longevity of the installations.
The segment from Mandale to Diamond Garden, incorporating the five stations, will be the first to become operational on Line 2B. Spanning 23.649 kilometres with 22 elevated stations, Line 2B will connect D.N. Nagar to Mandale via Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), significantly improving connectivity and alleviating congestion in Mumbai. The successful execution of Colossus’s contract will be pivotal to the timely completion and operationalisation of Line 2B, providing a modern and efficient transit solution for the city’s residents.
