Mumbai Metro Line 6 Project Awards Rs2269 Crore Contract For Key Systems

Mumbai’s rapidly expanding metro network is set for a significant boost with a leading construction firm securing a substantial ₹2,269 crore contract from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for Mumbai Metro Line 6. This crucial project, covering the Swami Samarth Nagar–Vikhroli corridor, involves the comprehensive design, manufacturing, supply, installation, integration, testing, and commissioning of essential metro components. The development underscores the city’s commitment to enhancing its public transportation infrastructure, aiming to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic congestion for millions of commuters.

The contract specifies a 24-month timeline for the completion of construction and commissioning activities. Following this, the company will be responsible for a two-year defect liability period and an additional five years of comprehensive maintenance, ensuring long-term operational efficiency and reliability of the metro line. The awarded scope includes critical elements such as rolling stock, advanced Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling systems, telecommunications infrastructure, platform screen doors, and necessary depot machinery.

This significant order adds to the company’s strong performance in the infrastructure sector, highlighted by ₹1,690.5 crore in new building division orders announced recently. The firm reported a 6% year-on-year increase in net profit for the quarter ended March 2025 and booked fresh orders worth ₹32,888 crore in FY25, bringing its consolidated order book to ₹71,568 crore as of March 31, 2025. Mumbai Metro Line 6, a 15.31-kilometre fully elevated corridor, is designed to enhance east-west connectivity and will integrate with multiple existing and upcoming metro and suburban rail lines, including Lines 2A, 3, 4, and 7, along with suburban railway interchanges at Jogeshwari and Kanjurmarg.

This vital metro development embodies a commitment to sustainable urban growth, providing an eco-friendly transport alternative that reduces carbon emissions and road congestion. It improves accessibility and connectivity, fostering equitable economic opportunities across Mumbai. Such infrastructure projects are crucial for building smart, resilient cities that prioritize the well-being and mobility of their inhabitants.
