Mumbai Metro 3 Opens New A3 Gate At BKC For Better Connectivity

Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, has opened its new A3 gate at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station, offering smoother access to the city’s prominent business district. The new entry-exit point is expected to significantly ease last-mile connectivity for thousands of professionals commuting daily to offices around One BKC, Jio Garden, and adjoining corporate clusters.

Officials confirmed that the gate, which became operational earlier this week, is now open for public use. While the A3 gate has yet to appear on Google Maps, commuters say its location near the Income Tax Office makes it a convenient option for those working in nearby commercial towers. The gate is also accessible via autos, providing a quicker link to major office destinations across the eastern stretch of BKC. The Bandra Kurla Complex remains one of Mumbai’s most significant employment zones, housing leading corporations such as ICICI Bank, Google, the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Reliance Industries, Cushman & Wakefield, and other global firms. The new metro access point is expected to not only reduce travel fatigue but also encourage more office-goers to shift from private vehicles to public transport — aligning with Mumbai’s long-term sustainability goals of reducing carbon emissions and traffic congestion.

Commuters, however, expressed mixed views about the placement of the new gate. Some appreciated the development after a prolonged wait, citing it as a positive step toward better urban mobility, while others felt the gate’s location should have been closer to the G Block, where several key offices are concentrated. “The metro connectivity in BKC is a great step forward, but positioning of exits must prioritise commuter convenience,” noted one urban transport expert. Transport activists emphasised the need for the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) to enhance real-time digital mapping of metro gates and improve last-mile linkages like shuttle services, cycle docks, and auto stands. They added that clear signage and integration with navigation apps are essential for optimising commuter flow and encouraging wider use of public transport.

With BKC evolving as a major financial and innovation hub, seamless public transit access will be critical for its future growth. Metro Line 3’s progressive openings — including this latest A3 gate — mark another step toward creating a low-emission, connected, and commuter-friendly Mumbai. The A3 gate’s opening reflects not just infrastructure progress but a shift towards sustainable urban mobility — one where accessibility, efficiency, and environmental responsibility move hand in hand.
