Mumbai Luxury Retail Expands With Vercelli Flagship

Mumbai’s luxury retail landscape is continuing to evolve as global fashion brands deepen their presence in India’s financial capital. Italian menswear label Vercelli has launched its first flagship store in the city’s Juhu neighbourhood, marking a new phase in the brand’s expansion into the Indian premium fashion market.

The new outlet spans around 4,500 square feet across two levels, positioning itself as a dedicated retail destination for luxury menswear in one of Mumbai’s prominent high-street districts. The store features ready-to-wear collections including shirts, tailored jackets, trousers, knitwear and accessories crafted from Italian fabrics. The upper level houses a bespoke tailoring studio where customers can access personalised fittings and fabric selections. Garments are measured locally but produced in Italy, allowing the brand to maintain its design and manufacturing standards while catering to Indian clients seeking customised formalwear. The entry into India’s retail market is being facilitated by a domestic textile enterprise that holds the brand’s licensing rights for the country. The company has decades of experience in fabric manufacturing and distribution and is now positioning the label as a premium standalone retail brand rather than limiting it to multi-brand fashion outlets.

Industry observers say the opening reflects the growing appeal of India’s luxury retail sector, particularly in metropolitan markets such as Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru. Rising disposable incomes, a younger professional demographic and increasing exposure to international fashion trends are contributing to stronger demand for premium apparel and bespoke tailoring services.Juhu, traditionally known for its hospitality and entertainment establishments, has also developed into a high-value retail micro-market. Its proximity to affluent residential neighbourhoods and strong tourist footfall has attracted luxury boutiques, designer stores and specialty fashion retailers seeking high-visibility locations.Retail analysts note that luxury brands are increasingly favouring experiential flagship stores in major Indian cities. Unlike conventional outlets focused purely on transactions, these stores emphasise curated customer experiences such as personalised styling consultations, fabric libraries and private fitting rooms. Such features aim to replicate the boutique environment associated with European luxury fashion houses.

For India’s retail real estate sector, this trend is also significant. Premium high-street corridors in cities like Mumbai are emerging as alternatives to traditional shopping malls for luxury labels seeking distinctive brand identities and more flexible store formats. The brand’s leadership says the Mumbai store represents only the first step in a broader India strategy. Additional outlets in other metropolitan markets are expected to follow as the company builds a direct presence in the country’s luxury menswear segment.Urban economists view the expansion of luxury retail as a reflection of changing consumption patterns in India’s cities. As urban middle- and upper-income households grow, demand for premium products—from fashion and automobiles to hospitality and lifestyle services—is reshaping retail districts and commercial property markets.

With international brands steadily expanding their footprint, Mumbai’s luxury retail ecosystem is likely to see further diversification. High-street locations such as Juhu may increasingly function not only as shopping destinations but also as cultural and lifestyle hubs that shape the city’s evolving urban consumption landscape.
