Mumbai Locals Hit by 6th Line Upgrades

Mumbai’s lifeline, the suburban railway network, is set to face significant disruptions due to ongoing work on the sixth railway line between Goregaon and Kandivali. This development project, critical to enhancing the capacity and efficiency of the Mumbai rail network, will unfortunately lead to temporary inconvenience for commuters, with several local trains either cancelled or delayed during the block.

In a statement, Western Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer elaborated on the extent of the disruptions. A total of 22 local trains, which serve as a daily commute for thousands, will be affected. Notably, trains operating on crucial routes such as Churchgate to Borivali and Andheri to Virar will be impacted. These cancellations are part of the ongoing efforts to modernise and expand the existing railway infrastructure to meet the growing demands of Mumbai’s bustling population.

The trains scheduled for cancellation include key services such as Train No. 90979 from Churchgate to Borivali, departing at 22:24 hrs, and Train No. 92188 from Virar to Andheri, scheduled at 21:36 hrs on 28th August 2024. Additionally, several other trains will be short-terminated, meaning they will either halt their journey prematurely or commence from an alternate station. For instance, Train No. 90895 from Churchgate to Borivali, departing at 20:41 hrs, will conclude its journey at Malad instead of Borivali.

Moreover, trains such as the 92194 Virar-Andheri local will operate on a restricted fast track between Borivali and Andheri to minimise delays and manage the flow of passengers effectively. This alteration is a temporary measure, crucial to ensuring the successful completion of the ongoing line expansion project. Passengers are strongly advised to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternative travel arrangements during this period. The disruption, while inconvenient, is a necessary step towards improving Mumbai’s rail infrastructure and is expected to yield long-term benefits for daily commuters.

As Mumbai continues to evolve into a global metropolis, such infrastructure upgrades are pivotal in maintaining the city’s robust public transport system. The western Railway’s efforts reflect a commitment to enhancing the quality and reliability of rail services in the city, ensuring that it can continue to serve its residents efficiently.
