Mumbai’s expanding metro network has reached another implementation milestone, with the regional transport authority identifying the lowest bidder for architectural finishing works across seven stations on Mumbai Metro Line 2B. The scope of work under the latest contract includes interior station fit-outs, construction of external façades, and installation of water supply, sanitation, and drainage systems. These elements, while often less visible than viaduct construction, play a decisive role in commuter comfort, safety, and long-term maintenance efficiency. “Well-designed stations influence how inclusive and accessible public transport feels, particularly for women, older citizens, and people with disabilities,” an urban transport expert said.
