Mumbai Grapples with Heavy Rainfall Areas Hit Hard by Downpour

Mumbai faced significant rainfall on July 12, 2024, with several areas reporting substantial precipitation between 7 am to 8 am. The maximum rainfall was recorded at various centres across the city, highlighting the localized impact of the weather event.

In the City and South Mumbai, the F South Division Office and Wadala Fire Station reported 28 mm of rainfall, followed closely by Worli Sea Face Municipal School at 27 mm. Other notable centres in this region included Pratishka Nagar Municipal School, Savitribai Municipal School, and Rawali Camp, each recording 26 mm. The G South Division Office and several other municipal schools also reported significant rainfall, underscoring the intensity of the downpour.

The Eastern Suburbs of Mumbai experienced even higher rainfall totals during the same period. Shivajinagar Municipal School topped the list with 42 mm, while Mankhurd Fire Station and Chembur Fire Station recorded 36 mm and 33 mm respectively. This pattern continued with various educational and administrative centres across M West, M East, and L Division Offices reporting between 20 mm to 29 mm of rainfall. In the Western Suburbs, Bandra Kurla Complex Center led with 36 mm of rainfall, followed closely by Naralwadi Municipal School at 32 mm. Chimbai Municipal School, Vileparle Fire Station, and Supari Tank Municipal School recorded 30 mm, with other centres reporting between 16 mm to 28 mm.

The continuous heavy rainfall since early morning has impacted daily routines across Mumbai, with reports suggesting that some areas have already accumulated 60-70 mm of rainfall over the last three hours. Such weather conditions prompt caution among residents, urging them to assess the situation before commuting, particularly due to potential disruptions caused by waterlogging and traffic congestion. The Mumbai Municipal Corporation advises citizens to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during such weather events.
