Mumbai firms collaborate to transform Indian railways

Mumbai-based Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd. and Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at transforming India’s railway infrastructure.

This collaboration focuses on manufacturing and maintaining freight rolling stock, enhancing operation and maintenance services, developing advanced manufacturing facilities, and reviving underutilised railway units. The goal is to strengthen India’s rail infrastructure and reduce import dependency. Under this partnership, both organisations will actively pursue high-potential opportunities domestically and internationally. They will jointly participate in tenders for the manufacture and maintenance of freight rolling stock, including wagons and related systems, through various bidding mechanisms. This collaboration leverages Texmaco’s manufacturing and engineering capabilities with RVNL’s execution excellence to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and future-ready solutions.

Beyond manufacturing and new projects, the agreement also emphasises operation and maintenance services for rolling stock and railway workshops. This includes jointly exploring tenders from the Ministry of Railways to enhance asset performance and lifecycle support, particularly for new workshop and depot operations as directed by the Railway Board. The collaboration extends to large-scale infrastructure projects such as track laying, electrification, and metro initiatives, contributing significantly to the modernisation of India’s rail network. Texmaco and RVNL plan to develop a technologically advanced wheel set manufacturing facility, prioritising localisation, seamless technology transfer, and the integration of domestic supply chains.

Another crucial aspect involves reviving underutilised manufacturing units under the Ministry of Railways, repurposing them for the production of metro and self-propelled bogies, including VB, EMU, and MEMU variants, to bolster domestic capabilities and reduce import dependency. This partnership aligns with India’s vision to modernise its rail infrastructure, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce carbon emissions. By focusing on indigenous manufacturing and technological advancements, Texmaco and RVNL aim to contribute to the country’s economic growth and sustainability goals.
