Mumbai CM Reviews 30 Projects And Sets Strict Three-Year Completion Deadline

In a high-stakes infrastructure review, the city’s top leadership convened on 4 August at Mantralaya’s War Room to assess the status of 30 key infrastructure projects across Mumbai. With timelines slipping and urban pressure mounting, the Chief Minister issued firm instructions: each project must be completed within three years of initiation, with no room for bureaucratic delays.

Senior officials from across departments, including divisional commissioners and collectors, participated in the review, some via video conferencing. Emphasis was placed on efficient coordination, faster fund disbursement, and strict adherence to timelines. The directive follows repeated public concerns over infrastructure backlogs in India’s financial capital. A core decision taken during the meeting was the consolidation of all project data and updates onto a unified Chief Minister’s Dashboard. Department-specific dashboards have been discontinued to eliminate duplication and ensure real-time, centralised oversight. Officials were told that any further procedural bottlenecks must be escalated directly to the War Room or brought before the Cabinet for swift resolution.

Metro connectivity, sea links, tunnels, and housing redevelopment featured prominently on the agenda. Among the high-impact urban transformations under scrutiny were the redevelopment of BDD chawls, the Sewri–Worli elevated corridor, the Goregaon–Mulund Link Road, the Virar–Alibag Multimodal Corridor, and the Thane–Borivali twin tunnel. Officials also presented progress updates on several metro corridors—Lines 2B, 4, 5, 6, 7A, and 9—all of which are integral to the city’s mass rapid transit goals. The city’s leadership also prioritised the creation of housing clusters near terminal metro stations to address last-mile connectivity challenges. Urban planners were instructed to integrate transport and housing to make better use of expensive metropolitan land and ensure sustainable development.

Significant movement was noted on previously stalled projects. Officials reported that 63 out of 132 bottlenecks identified in an earlier April review had been resolved. Flat allotment for residents of the Worli BDD Chawl redevelopment is set to begin next week, while progress in Naigaon and N. M. Joshi Marg remains on track. Departments were directed to release funds urgently for projects currently under execution, particularly those with critical connectivity implications. The use of advanced project management technology and accountability measures was also underscored during the review.

The city administration has made it clear that infrastructure delivery in Mumbai will now be outcome-driven and held to measurable timelines. With the next review already scheduled, departments are under pressure to show tangible progress—or face scrutiny.
