Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday inaugurated the Bharat Gaurav Special Tourist Train dedicated to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit. The launch coincided with the 351st anniversary of the legendary Maratha ruler’s coronation, marking a momentous occasion in the state’s cultural calendar.
Departing from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), the six-day tour is part of Indian Railways’ Bharat Gaurav initiative, aimed at showcasing India’s rich cultural and historical heritage. The train journey encompasses key locations associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy, including Raigad Fort, Shivneri Fort, Pratapgad Fort, Panhala Fort, Lal Mahal, Kasba Ganp … . Pilgrimage sites such as the Bhimashankar Jy … are also featured in the itinerary. The Bharat Gaurav train offers a comprehensive package that includes train fare, meals, accommodation, and transportation, ensuring a hassle-free and immersive travel experience for passengers. The train is equipped with modern amenities, including infotainment systems, CCTV cameras, and a well-equipped pantry car for preparing fresh meals onboard.
Speaking at the launch, CM Fadnavis expressed his gratitude to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making this initiative possible. He emphasized the importance of connecting the youth with the rich history of Maharashtra, stating, “This special Bharat Gaurav Train will connect people, especially the youth, with that legacy.” The inaugural journey witnessed an overwhelming response, with all 710 seats fully booked. Notably, around 80% of the passengers were below the age of 40, reflecting a strong interest among the youth in exploring the state’s historical and cultural heritage.
Dr. Swapnil D. Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating, “Flagging off this train on Shivaji Maharaj’s coronation anniversary is symbolic and inspiring. The train gives passengers an opportunity to explore historic sites where the Maratha warrior carried out some of his most defining actions. It’s a journey of discovery and pride.” The Bharat Gaurav train is themed around Maratha valour, heritage, and spirituality, offering curated commentary, cultural insights, and on-board hospitality to enhance the experience for travellers. With such enthusiastic participation and symbolic timing, the Shivaji Maharaj Circuit is poised to become a sought-after heritage tourism experience, blending history, devotion, and pride in Maharashtra’s glorious past.
