Mumbai Central to Launch Co Working Lounge

Indian Railways is set to launch a dedicated co-working lounge at Mumbai Central station, offering professionals and commuters a convenient digital workspace at one of the city’s busiest travel hubs.

Unlike co-working spaces previously seen at Navi Mumbai stations—managed by local authorities—this project marks the first time railway-owned premises are being repurposed for work pods and digital lounges. Western Railway confirmed the plan, highlighting the initiative as part of its broader effort to transform major stations into integrated urban centres. “Stations are at central locations, and a digital lounge aligns with the vision of Digital India while enhancing commuter experience,” said a Western Railway spokesperson.

The co-working facility will span 1,500 sq ft within the station’s main concourse area and is expected to be operational within two to three months. The space will feature workstations, high-speed internet, mobile and laptop charging points, meeting rooms, social event zones, printing and scanning services, and self-serve refreshments. Services will be offered on a pay-per-use basis, allowing flexible hourly access for professionals between travel schedules.

The development aims to serve a growing segment of digital professionals and business travellers seeking productive environments during transit. With this move, Mumbai Central is set to pioneer a model that could be replicated across major railway stations in the country.
