Mumbai Central Railway Adds Extra AC Superfast Trains For Diwali And Chhath Passengers

Mumbai’s Central Railway has announced the operation of additional AC Superfast Special trains between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Nagpur, aimed at accommodating the surge in passengers during the Diwali and Chhath festival season. The new services are part of the railway’s ongoing efforts to enhance commuter convenience, reduce travel congestion, and support safe, timely transport for festival-bound travellers.

The added 01005 AC Superfast Special will depart CSMT at 00.20 am on 25 October 2025, reaching Nagpur by 3.30 pm the same day. In the reverse direction, the 01006 AC Superfast Special will leave Nagpur at 6.10 pm on 25 October 2025, arriving at CSMT at 8.25 am the following day. These trains are designed with 20 AC 3-tier coaches and 2 generator cars, ensuring comfortable travel for long-distance passengers. Key halts for both services include Dadar, Thane, Kalyan, Igatpuri, Nashik Road, Manmad, Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Malkapur, Shegaon, Akola, Murtizapur, Badnera, Dhamangaon, and Wardha. Officials emphasised that the special trains are scheduled to manage the peak holiday travel demand while minimising delays and overcrowding.

Reservations for these additional services are already open at all computerized reservation centres and on the IRCTC website. The Central Railway also encourages passengers to check real-time schedules and halts via the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) App or the Indian Railways enquiry portal to plan their journeys efficiently. Railway officials highlighted that this strategic augmentation of AC Superfast services is a part of broader measures to support sustainable, comfortable, and efficient urban-to-suburban and intercity travel during high-demand periods. By facilitating faster and reliable connectivity between Mumbai and Nagpur, the initiative not only eases passenger pressure but also optimises fuel efficiency and reduces road congestion, aligning with eco-friendly mobility objectives.

Central Railway representatives noted that proactive deployment of additional AC Superfast Specials demonstrates commitment to passenger comfort and service efficiency, particularly during festive travel peaks. These interventions are expected to significantly improve the travel experience for thousands of commuters while maintaining operational efficiency across the rail network. Passengers are urged to complete advance bookings, maintain punctuality, and adhere to safety norms during travel. Central Railway continues to monitor passenger traffic and is prepared to adjust services to maintain smooth operations throughout the festive period.
