Mumbai Braces for Light Rainfall Today

Mumbai residents can expect light rainfall today, May 17, as per the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

While the city itself remains under a general watch, a yellow alert has been issued for the adjoining districts of Thane and Raigad, indicating the possibility of thunderstorms and light to moderate showers in these areas. The IMD’s bulletin suggests that the city’s skies will be partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging between 28°C and 32°C. Humidity levels are expected to hover around 69%, contributing to a slightly muggy atmosphere. Wind speeds are anticipated to reach up to 16 km/h, providing some respite from the humidity.

In terms of air quality, Mumbai’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stands at 76, categorizing it as ‘moderate’. While this level is generally acceptable for the general population, individuals with respiratory conditions or sensitivities to pollution may experience mild discomfort. The IMD has also indicated that the current weather patterns are part of a broader trend of above-average rainfall expected in various parts of the country, including Maharashtra, over the next few weeks. This pattern is anticipated to continue until the onset of the monsoon in Kerala, projected around May 31.

Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially in areas under the yellow alert. The IMD continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as needed.
