Mumbai is set to experience warm and humid conditions today, Thursday, June 12, with light to moderate rainfall anticipated throughout the day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the city, indicating the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. The city’s temperature is expected to range between 29.2°C and 31.4°C, with an average daytime temperature of 30.1°C.
Humidity levels are forecasted to be around 75%, making the air feel heavier than usual. Wind speeds may reach up to 28.1 km/h, and overcast skies are likely to dominate the weather pattern. Evening temperatures might show a slight decrease, offering more comfortable conditions. The southwest monsoon, which had stalled since May 29, is anticipated to resume its northward movement between June 12 and 18, according to meteorologists. This revival is expected to bring increased rainfall activity to the region.
Residents, especially those in coastal and low-lying areas, are advised to remain cautious during high tide periods, as elevated sea levels can increase the risk of waterlogging. The BMC’s stormwater drains department has installed 16 floodgates along the Coastal Road to mitigate inundation risks. The IMD has issued red and orange alerts for several districts of Maharashtra. The coastal region in Konkan is under red alert, expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall today. Other regions, including Vidarbha and Marathwada, are under orange alert, anticipating heavy to moderate rainfall.
Mumbai residents should prepare for a day of warm, humid conditions with intermittent rainfall. Authorities have issued advisories to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially during high tide periods. The revival of the monsoon is expected to bring increased rainfall activity to the region in the coming days.
