Mumbai Airport’s T2 Metro Walkway in the Works

Mumbai’s transport infrastructure is set to take another leap forward as plans are underway to construct a temporary walkway connecting the newly inaugurated T2 Metro station on the Aqua Line 3 to the airport terminal. This initiative is expected to ease the journey for travellers by providing a direct, hassle-free route to the airport.

At present, passengers using the T2 Metro station must navigate a maze of turns and paths, a challenge further compounded for those travelling with heavy luggage. To add to their woes, road traffic near the airport creates additional stress, leaving travellers drained before even beginning their journey. Recognising these challenges, the authorities have proposed a temporary walkway to ensure seamless connectivity between the metro station and the airport terminal. The walkway will allow commuters to bypass roadblocks and long detours, significantly improving accessibility for air passengers.

A recent inspection by officials at the T2 Metro station aimed to evaluate on-ground realities and explore practical solutions for implementing the walkway. This step is seen as a positive move towards enhancing Mumbai’s public transport experience, particularly for frequent fliers and business travellers. While the walkway is envisioned as a temporary structure, its impact is expected to be transformative, addressing long-standing complaints about inconvenient airport access. Once operational, it will complement the state-of-the-art Aqua Line 3, Mumbai’s first underground metro, which has already been lauded for improving connectivity across the city. Travellers eagerly await the realisation of this project, which promises to make their airport commutes smoother and more efficient. With such initiatives, Mumbai continues to prioritise passenger convenience and urban mobility.
