At the heart of CSMIA’s eco-friendly initiatives is its advanced waste management programme, achieving an impressive 99.6% diversion rate from landfills. Waste is meticulously sorted at the source, and authorised vendors ensure safe disposal and recycling. Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) allow passengers to dispose of plastic bottles responsibly, encouraging recycling. Additionally, food and beverage waste is composted on-site and repurposed for landscaping, while a structured process is in place for managing electronic waste responsibly. Hand dryers in washrooms significantly reduce paper waste, replacing traditional tissue papers.
CSMIA has actively involved passengers in its green initiatives. Clearly marked recycling bins for wet, dry, and plastic waste are strategically placed across the terminals. Informative signage and colour-coded stations empower passengers to participate in reducing the airport’s ecological footprint. Energy efficiency lies at the core of CSMIA’s operations. The airport has replaced traditional lights with LED fixtures across terminals and taxiways. Advanced daylight harvesting systems and double-glazed facades optimise natural light usage while minimising heat ingress. Variable Air Volume (VAV) controlled HVAC systems enhance energy savings in heating, ventilation, and cooling. Furthermore, CSMIA is scaling up its on-site solar energy generation, moving closer to 100% renewable energy reliance.
CSMIA’s accomplishments include carbon neutrality, ACA Level 4+ accreditation, and the use of 100% green electricity. With ambitious long-term goals like Zero Waste to Landfill, Water Positivity, and achieving Operational Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2029, CSMIA is setting a benchmark for sustainability in the aviation industry.
