Air India has grounded seven flights—four international and three domestic—citing “enhanced maintenance and operational reasons” just days after a harrowing Dreamliner accident with an Ahmedabad–London flight. The airline communicated that these cancellations are part of rigorous safety assessments and operational adjustments aimed at reinforcing passenger confidence and service reliability.

The affected international flights include AI906 (Dubai–Chennai), AI308/AI309 (Delhi–Melbourne round trip), and AI2204 (Dubai–Hyderabad). Additionally, domestic cancellations cover AI874 (Pune–Delhi), AI456 (Ahmedabad–Delhi), and AI571 (Chennai–Mumbai). An Air India spokesperson emphasised that these are proactive steps to ensure aircraft integrity and minimise risks.This move follows a previous announcement on June 18, where Air India disclosed plans to reduce frequencies on its Boeing 787 and 777 fleets from 21 June to at least 15 July 2025. The rationale cited included enhanced pre-flight safety checks and operational complexities stemming from vital airspace closures in the Middle East, which have extended flight durations.

Industry analysts note that prioritising safety over scheduling reflects well on the airline’s risk management strategy—particularly in the aftermath of the Ahmedabad crash, which claimed 241 lives. However, frequent cancellations also raise questions about resource strain within Air India’s fleet and their capacity to manage unplanned checks alongside routine operations.Passengers affected by cancellations now face rebooking or refunds.
