Maharashtra’s Palghar district, authorities have commenced a detailed survey following reports of structural cracks along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor. The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is overseeing the multi-billion-dollar bullet train project, has confirmed that controlled blasting operations in the area are being conducted under strict supervision to ensure safety and transparency.
The NHSRCL has mobilised technical teams to inspect the affected structures and determine the cause of the damage. An independent third-party agency has also been engaged to conduct a comprehensive evaluation. To date, over 290 structures have been surveyed in collaboration with district officials and local residents, ensuring an open and accountable assessment process. Findings from this technical audit will guide any remedial measures needed along the corridor. Local communities had raised concerns after cracks appeared in residential and commercial buildings during ongoing construction activities, prompting authorities to act swiftly. Officials emphasised that public safety remains a top priority, and no compromises will be made while advancing the ambitious project.
The 508-kilometre Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, India’s first high-speed rail initiative, involves extensive civil engineering works, including tunnelling, controlled blasting, and the erection of elevated viaducts.
