A Mumbai-based content creator has sparked conversation online after revealing she pays Rs 1.11 lakh per month in rent for her two-bedroom apartment in Bandra, one of the city’s most sought-after residential neighbourhoods.
In a viral Instagram video, Muskan Ranka gave fellow creator Arya Kothari a tour of her 2BHK apartment. When asked about her monthly rent, Muskan initially joked that it costs her “both of my kidneys,” before clarifying that she pays Rs 1,11,000 per month, inclusive of maintenance charges. The apartment, which Muskan refers to as “Baddie Bhavan,” is designed in muted shades of white, taupe and beige. Despite her earlier claim that the flat measures around 600 sq ft, several viewers commented that the space appeared larger in the video. The tour showcased the living room fitted with professional lighting equipment, two bedrooms, a compact kitchen and a small balcony a feature considered a luxury in Mumbai’s dense housing market. Describing herself as a “full-time content creator,” Muskan explained that the lighting setup is essential for her work. While she chose not to disclose her earnings, she acknowledged that living in Mumbai is “hella expensive,” a sentiment echoed widely in the comments section. The video has garnered over 1.7 million views and hundreds of reactions, ranging from admiration for the apartment’s aesthetic to disbelief at the rental figure. Many users highlighted the growing gap between income levels and rental costs in premium Mumbai neighbourhoods.
Bandra, particularly Bandra West, has long been considered one of Mumbai’s most desirable addresses. Its proximity to business districts, entertainment hubs and coastal promenades has kept demand consistently high. Industry estimates suggest that 2BHK rents in Bandra typically range between Rs 85,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh per month, placing it among the city’s most expensive rental micro-markets after prime South Mumbai areas such as Colaba and Worli. Mumbai’s broader rental landscape reflects sustained demand, limited supply in premium zones and rising lifestyle expectations among tenants. Over the past few years, improved infrastructure, celebrity presence and the growth of the digital creator economy have further strengthened demand in neighbourhoods like Bandra and Andheri West.
The viral apartment tour has once again spotlighted the realities of urban housing economics in India’s financial capital where aspirational living often comes with a premium price tag. For many viewers, the Rs 1.11 lakh monthly rent was less a shock and more a reminder of Mumbai’s enduring status as one of the country’s costliest cities to rent a home.
